NearNow Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 1, 2026 · Last updated: July 1, 2026

NearNow Events LLC ("NearNow," "we," "us") operates the NearNow platform — a hyperlocal discovery service for real-world, in-person events. This Privacy Policy applies to the NearNow mobile application (iOS and Android), our website (nearnow.events and its subdomains), and any related services. It explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and your choices.

NearNow is a 21+ platform. It is not directed to, and we do not knowingly collect information from, anyone under the age of 21. If we learn we have collected data from someone under the age of 21, we delete it.

1. Information we collect

You give us:

  • Account: email address; phone number (for verification, where enabled); date of birth (to confirm you are 21 or older); authentication credentials.

  • Profile: display name, optional bio, profile photo/avatar, and the Tribes (interests) and Vibes you select.

  • Content & activity: events you create or host, RSVPs, saved events, and messages you exchange with hosts or attendees.

  • Payment information: processed by our payment provider, Stripe. NearNow does not store full card numbers. If you host paid events, Stripe collects identity, tax, and bank details directly to enable payouts (see Section 3).

Collected automatically:

  • Location: with your permission, your device's precise (GPS-level) or approximate (general-area) location, collected only while you are actively using the app, to show events near you and power the map. Event addresses you enter are also processed to place events on the map. You control this in your device's permission settings and can revoke it at any time.

  • Mapping & geocoding: we use Mapbox to provide maps and to convert addresses into map locations; your location and address queries are processed by Mapbox. See Mapbox's privacy policy.

  • Usage & technical data: our backend provider, Supabase, collects limited technical and usage data — such as device type, operating system, app version, and general activity — to help us operate, secure, and improve the service.

  • Cookies & local storage: we use local storage and similar technologies to operate the app (see Section 9).

2. How we use information

To operate and improve the service; surface relevant nearby events; process payments and host payouts; support trust and safety; send service-related communications; and meet legal obligations. We do not sell your personal information.

3. Who we share with

We share only what is needed with service providers ("processors") who handle data on our behalf:

  • Stripe — payments, host payouts, and identity/tax verification (stripe.com/privacy).

  • Supabase — backend, authentication, database hosting, and limited usage/technical data.

  • Mapbox — maps and geocoding (processes location/address data).

  • Lovable — application hosting/platform.

  • Twilio — SMS delivery, where phone verification is enabled.

We may also share aggregated, de-identified data with partners for industry insights. We may disclose information when required by law or to protect users, the public, or NearNow.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own advertising.

4. Location data

Precise location is opt-in through your device's permission prompt and is used, while you are using the app, to find events near you. Declining still lets you browse by typing a location. You can revoke the permission at any time in your device settings.

5. Messages & event participation

Messages between hosts and attendees, and certain participation details (such as that you have RSVP'd), are visible to the relevant host or attendees as the feature requires. Please be mindful of what you share in messages and in your profile.

6. International data transfers

NearNow is based in the United States, and we process and store data in the United States. If you access NearNow from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be processed in the U.S., which may have data-protection laws different from those in your jurisdiction.

7. Your rights & choices

You may request access to, correction of, deletion of, or restriction of processing of your personal data by contacting us or by using the in-app Delete Account feature. Deletion requests are honored subject to legal retention obligations (for example, tax, fraud prevention, and safety). You can also access and update your profile in the app at any time.

Depending on where you live — including under the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act and California's CCPA/CPRA — you may have rights to know what we collect, access and delete your data, correct it, and opt out of certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact us at the email below.

8. Do Not Sell or Share

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not "share" it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined under the CCPA/CPRA. Because we do not sell or share, no opt-out is required; if this ever changes, we will update this policy and provide the required controls.

9. Cookies & tracking technologies

We use local storage and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, and operate core features. We use limited usage data (see Section 1) to understand usage in aggregate. We do not use third-party advertising cookies, and we do not sell tracking data.

10. Data retention

We keep personal data only as long as needed to provide the service and to meet legal obligations. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal data, except limited records we are required or permitted to retain (for example, transaction and tax records for the period required by law, and information needed for fraud prevention and safety). After those periods, we delete or de-identify the data.

11. Security

We use industry-standard safeguards (including access controls and encryption in transit) to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data and to address risks promptly.

12. Children's privacy

NearNow is strictly for adults 21 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under the age of 21. If you believe someone under the age of 21 has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

13. Changes

We may update this policy; material changes will be posted here with a new "Last updated" date.
